So, I've sat and thought a lot about this topic... alot..
As you all know I've played servers where Griffins and Wyverns are breed-able. And where-as this server is not.

I wanted to take a second to state/debate, why I think that turning Griffin Breeding on is a good idea. Be ready there are 3 points, and it isn't short.

As we all know, one of the easiest first flyers to get is the Ptera, which then leads to a trap to get Argents or Griffins.  With griffins having limited spawn points, and them potentially getting spawn blocked by people building in an area they aren't aware is a spawn point could cause a lack of Griffins on the map. Lets not forget to mention levels, you have to kill a few, fly back to the other part of the map, kill a few more, then come back and repeat till you find a level you like.

The second reason is color, I know there are people who enjoy breeding for colors, like Brisa and her Otters =P . Griffins also are very intriguing with the right color combinations from mutations. This could bring something new to the breeding game, thanks to the cryopods giving space on breeder player bases.

My third point and more important point is this.  Out of the flyers that are tamable at the moment on ark, the only multi seated flyers (not counting store purchase dinos) is a Quetzel (using platform), RockDrake, and Managamr. Yes i know people can jump onto the back of a wyvern and stack, but we aren't going to count that.  I feel Since a Griffin trap method is about the same as an argent that breeding them wouldn't make it much different than the argent, except for the players it carries. That being said, it can't pick up as big of dinos as an argent or carry as much weight, there for still limiting it. This makes a good solo/duo tribe dino. Especially with the use of being able to shoot from its back.

Yes, they have a glide attack boost, however imagine during events, you have tribes who have breeding griffins. Now they are not afraid to take their battle griffins in, to kill the small things or flying things, allowing your ground units to focus on the bigger bosses. This also will allow those whose ground units get knocked out to get saved by a player on a griffin, so they can be sitting in the second seat allowing the driver to fly while they shoot at the boss with their long range.

I do understand this can make grabbing wyvern eggs easier to an extent, but in my eyes, I have an easier time grabbing eggs using a ptera and its barrel roll than a griffin. Due to the ptera keeping straight as it barrels , where the griffin has to climb and then dive to gain distance, leaving you a target longer for a wyvern attack then the simple boost of the ptera.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this, hopefully you can let me know your thoughts on this topic.

I think id be fine with the griffins being breedable, they arent overpowered in my opinion and interesting colors on them might peak some interest. i just hope no one ends up with 1000 of them lagging the server.

I can see how this can be a good thing. Any dino with the right breeding can become overpowered. Take the rexes and gigas for example. Then you have my trikes I use to breed that were basically indestructible. I personally am for it. I'd love to have some color mutations amongst the griffins.

With the continued evolution of the game meta I find almost no reasons to have a griffin.  When starting off they are nice to get your first quetz and first wyvern egg.. but are pretty useless after that IMO.  So... sure, make them breedable :-)

See I still love them as my main flyer with their ability to cross map quickly with glides. And ability to do a tranq of flyers without building traps so I'm not cluttering areas on maps with traps ?

Yeah I personally don’t use mine, with all the shop dinos that are around like the mini wyvern that is way faster I don’t need to but I’d definitely hope for some colors. Although perhaps due to mod count currently on rag it might be shot down. So I propose that maybe that it happen in valguero or any future alternative map with griffins

if Val had Griffins breedable, it would give me a reason to go to Val, but the question/concern that comes with that Apollo is this.

Most times if you have a modded dino, you cant take it to a map that doesn't have the same mod. Since the mod adds genders to the griffins they become a Mod Variant, so does this mean, will they get lost in transfer (locked out), will they loose their breed ability/gender, or will they transfer normal?
This means it wouldn't just be one server that has to have the mod, but all. Granted most of the mods set for Griffin breeding are so small they make no huge difference to a server. Since it isn't adding items like eco and castles, it wouldn't bog the server as much as those tend to in times.

You are correct in that it would make them nontransferable. Perhaps if you provide a link to a specific griffin breeding mod for this we could look at the file size and discern whether or not it would greatly impact the server load time or not. my opinion is that at first it wouldnt, 200-300 griffins bred later then it might. Do cryoe'd dinos produce any lag at all? or are they still accounted for when it comes to load times into the server.

Are we already forgetting about the poor Tapas?

Making them breedable will not make people more willing to take them into a boss battle. Most players are  too afraid to take even their old breeding stock into boss battles to help out as it is.

I don't think/feel like adding a mod to make a specific dino/creature is beneficial for the the overall health of any server. Once all is said and done, you would end up witha  server with 20+ mods where when one updates, it could cause others to break, due to conflicts or the server could just crash once you start adding xyz to abc. At the very least, it could be like the ecos mods, when they get an update (which is not often thankfully now) the server might have to be restarted just so people can join the server, just so one creature can be bred.

All the creature mods are synonymous on the core maps except aberration atm.

I would say with respect to having to be inconvenienced by updates we already face this more often with mods like additional creatures 2 since it has an active modder that is going in often and adding more content, as well as our admin having to go in to tweak any broken or overpowered dinos. Personally id like to see if anyone from our PFG server could make a mod like this so that they can personally fix it actively should we have errors, or find one under an active modder.

Wouldn’t you have to use the s+ mutator(I think that’s what it’s called, correct me if wrong)to make them breedable since they have no gender?  I’m not very knowledgeable in the available mods but I’m pretty sure there is no way pfg would add the mutator in as it makes everything breedable and also gives the ability to change the gender of dinos

AC2 does not require a server restart for every update though. Removing any Dino can be done during the night/when there is little/no activity on the server to have to work around.

Some mods, like ecos (lol) require a server update each time the mod is updated. There is also the total amount of mods that you need to consider as well.  Right now, some people call get on Rag in 4 min, others take half an hour+. We want to pop a both current and new. So you also need to find the balance there as well since when events are going on 1-3 mods are added for them as well.
